There are no typos in the title; this project was a monstrous undertaking for our clients and friends, and transforming this cozy living space into a modern retreat required a focus on the details, which is exquisitely presented with this monolithic fireplace and bespoke bookshelf. The fireplace, rendered in granite, was meticulously fabricated from scratch, serving as the room’s sophisticated centerpiece. Above it, fluted travertine tiles create a striking contrast, adding texture and depth with their natural stone elegance.
Adjacent to this monumental fireplace is a custom-designed bookshelf, a labor of love between a skilled artisan, the client, and the design team. Made from quarter-sawn oak, this towering structure elegantly displays a collection of books and personal treasures, offering both functionality and a personal touch. The addition of arches in the design nods to other custom elements throughout this historic-meets-modern renovation, seamlessly blending past and present.
Strategic lighting highlights these key features, enhancing the textures and craftsmanship that define the space. The overall design harmonizes modern elegance with personalized artistry, creating a room that feels uniquely tailored and inviting.
